Terms and Conditions

Welcome to BusinessOwners.lk, a community-run business directory and membership network for businesses operating in Sri Lanka. These Terms and Conditions explain the rules for joining, listing your business, paying for membership, using your account, and receiving customer inquiries through our platform. By registering a business or using BusinessOwners.lk, you agree to these terms, so please read them carefully. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform. These terms are effective from 9 October 2026 and may be updated from time to time.

1. Who can join

Membership is open to genuine, lawfully operating businesses based in Sri Lanka.

You must provide accurate, current and truthful information about your business, including its name, location, category and description.

You confirm that you are the owner of the business, or that you are authorised to represent it and to accept these terms on its behalf.

We may ask for verification details at any time.

2. Your account and sign-in

We use passwordless sign-in. You log in with a secure magic link sent to your registered email address, so there is no password to remember.

Keeping your email account secure is your responsibility. Anyone with access to your inbox can access your listing.

Tell us promptly if you believe someone has gained unauthorised access to your email or your listing.

3. Review and moderation

Our team reviews every business that joins. Your profile goes live as soon as your payment is confirmed, and we check it shortly afterwards.

At our reasonable discretion, we may review, edit, hide or remove any listing that is fake, misleading, illegal, offensive, spammy, or that breaches these terms.

We may request additional proof at any time, and we may pause a listing while we check it.

Our review helps protect the trust of the whole community. It is not an endorsement or a warranty of any business.

4. Your public profile and the directory

Your business profile, including your business name, category, district, description and photos, is public and may be indexed by search engines such as Google and Bing.

Your personal contact details, such as your private phone number and email address, are not shown publicly.

Customers reach you through the on-site inquiry form. Each inquiry is routed through BusinessOwners.lk and delivered to your inbox and by email. This "contact through us" model keeps your private details private.

5. Inquiries and fair use

The inquiry form is for genuine business inquiries only.

You must not use inquiries, or the platform, to send spam, scams, abuse, unlawful content, or bulk unsolicited messages.

Misuse of the inquiry system, whether by a sender or by a business, may lead to a listing being suspended or removed and to access being blocked.

6. Membership and fees

Listing a business on BusinessOwners.lk requires an annual membership, which costs Rs. 3,000 per year. Membership covers your business profile and the member benefits described on our membership page.

You pay online through our payment partner, OnePay, by debit or credit card or FriMi. We never see or store your card details. Where we offer it, you can also pay by bank transfer, and your membership starts when we have confirmed that payment.

Your profile goes live as soon as your payment is confirmed. Membership runs for 12 months from that day. If you renew before your membership ends, the new 12 months start the day after your current membership ends.

Membership does not renew automatically, and we never take a payment without your action. We remind you by email before your membership ends. If you do not renew, your profile is hidden from the directory until you renew.

Membership fees are not refundable once your profile is live, except where you were charged twice or charged the wrong amount, in which case we refund the extra payment. If we decide within 14 days of your payment that your business cannot be listed, for a reason other than false or misleading information, we refund your fee in full.

We organise seminars, information sessions, networking events and an annual Awards & Dinner Night for members. Dates, venues and formats may change, and places at some events may be limited. Award categories and how winners are chosen are announced for each awards year.

Information we share about government programmes, grants and financing is for guidance only. We do not arrange funding or decide who is eligible.

7. No guarantee of results

We optimise your profile, keep it indexed, and submit it to search engines such as Google and Bing.

We do not and cannot guarantee any specific Google ranking, search position, level of visibility, number of views, number of inquiries, leads or sales.

Search rankings and customer demand depend on many factors outside our control, including search engine policies, competition and market conditions.

Any monthly report we provide shows real views and inquiries recorded on the platform. It is a record of activity, not a promise of future results.

8. The service is provided "as is"

BusinessOwners.lk is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We work hard to keep it running well, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available or run without interruptions or errors.

To the fullest extent permitted by Sri Lankan law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost business or loss of data arising from your use of the platform.

We are not responsible for the conduct of any business or customer, or for any dealing that takes place between them after an inquiry is made.

9. Your content and intellectual property

You keep ownership of the content you submit, including your business name, text, logo and photos.

You confirm that you have the right to use and share that content, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

You grant BusinessOwners.lk a non-exclusive licence to store, display, reproduce and promote your listing on the platform and in our marketing, for as long as your listing is active.

The BusinessOwners.lk name, design and platform remain our property.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time as the platform grows and features change.

When we make significant changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, let you know.

Your continued use of BusinessOwners.lk after a change means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Sri Lanka have jurisdiction over any dispute.
